Hey there family and friends, this is Jerry today, the only guy brave enough to travel to another country with seven girls for three weeks. I'd like to talk to the dads for a little bit about what we did today. We got up early, we went for a long hike, I drank a beer, and we sat on the beach for a little while. I would stop there but I know that, although that is what the dads want to hear, the moms out there want a little more detail. Don't worry moms, I've got you. We started our day full of Cretan adventures early, leaving the MAIch campus at 5:50 this morning. I'm sure some of you were still awake when we were getting up. After a beautiful bus ride through the White Mountains of Crete's northern shore with the sun was rising in the east, we came to a small encampment that consisted more of goats than people. Soon after arriving, we set off on our 16 km(approx. 10 mile) hike through the Samaria Gorge. The longest gorge in Europe, it had us walking down steep pine covered hills, and across vast dried up creek beds. Pictures really do no justice to the magnitude and grandeur of the mountains around us. There were many close calls, but not once did someone fall. After our lengthy trek, we came to see the ocean open up to us. We found a small cantina, and relaxed for awhile enjoying the drinks, and even more so, the free wi-fi. We finally headed down to the beach after our much needed rest to take another break in the rocky sand next to the beautiful clear water of the Mediterranean Sea. The ferry was there to take us back to our bus a short twelve hours after our adventure began. Upon arriving back at campus, we were greeted with more amazing Greek food comprised of fried egg and mushroom topped spinach, baked chicken with couscous, and the always amazing fresh vegetables. Our group retires early tonight to prepare for the long day ahead of us tomorrow as we make our way to Thessaloniki.
Until next time,
